Music Theory Lessons

Rudiments of Theory I (Recommended age 9 and up, any or no instrumental experience necessary)

Understanding the structure of the language of music is an essential part of every student’s training, regardless of the instrument they play! This course will teach the mathematics and syntax of written music. Weekly classes progress through notation, key signatures, scales, chords, music vocabulary, and cadences. The course follows the guidelines and materials of the National Music Certification Program (the international branch of Royal Conservatory of Music) that offers examinations in several graded levels of theory, piano and stringed instruments. In this course, students progress toward writing the preliminary level theory examination through the National Music Certification Program.
